Newly Qualified Personal Trainer

Newly Qualified Personal Trainer

Hell yeah…you read that right!

I did it…I qualified and can now proudly call myself a personal trainer!! Took a bit longer than expected because lockdown meant my practical sessions started in June instead of February…but I got there.

So now what?

Well, now that I am armed with the qualifications and insurance that allows me to be let loose on the general public, I am starting to book in a few training sessions. I am delivering some pre-launch PT packages with my proper launch planned for January 2022 when the world and his dog decides to get fit (N.B. not qualified to train dogs).

My new business is called Fit Around You (get it, get it?) in keeping with my ethos of interweaving exercise and keeping fit into your daily life.

In the meantime, let me tell you all about my first experience of calling a client. I have a link with a company who send me details of people in my area looking for a personal trainer. The first one I got sent was a guy in Bradford near to where I live who wanted to build muscle. Not my ideal first client by any means. Probably not really my market to be honest but I thought why not give it a go. So I did, I called him one evening and explained who I was and where I was from and would he like to book in a consultation? He was all very positive until he asked who would be the trainer. I explained that I was the PT that would be delivering the session and I believe his exact words were “I want a man because I know he’d be properly qualified and would know what he was doing”…………………………………..😲

I took a moment, and very calmly explained that women and men do exactly the same training and women know the right techniques and training approaches so I would be able to help him build muscle. But I couldn’t get through to him…he really could not fathom that a woman could be a personal trainer and that was that. And by the way, he was not even trying to be offensive; he just genuinely thought it was ok to say that to me. Luckily, I’m not that easily offended – I was more gobsmacked than anything.

So, onward and upwards. I have three sessions due to be starting after October half term (all women who are happy to have a female PT btw) and I’m really excited to get going. I can’t wait to share all that I’ve learnt myself over the last year about exercise and nutrition and how to make long-term changes, and help people make positive changes to their health and wellbeing.

I will be launching my January packages and offers in a few weeks and then let’s just see what happens. It’s exciting, it’s scary, but life is too short to not take a few risks here and there to do something you love.

I’ve transferred my blog to here where I will continue to share my journey as a personal trainer, and hopefully continue to share a few titbits of advice for us normal folk trying to be healthy and stay in shape whilst also living a normal/hectic/crazy life full of fun and enjoyment.
